The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a major honors show nears, one notices a clamor for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
